Yes, it is possible to write a fiction biography. You could make up "events" in your life that are not necessarily true, but no one knows that. Also, interpretation is a huge part. One persons interpretation could hype up a story, which would lead another person to believe it's fiction.
The Zoolanders believe that it is impossible to truly know if a biography is nonfiction. It is this doubt that allows authors to take liberties with the lives they are presenting in their biographies. A biography entails a person writing of a life they did not in fact live. For that reason it is impossible for them to know all of the explicit details of the person’s life and the emotions they felt or the actions they took. While writing a biography it easy to embellish a person’s life to make it seem more intriguing and extraordinary. While it may be possible to write a nonfiction biography it is easier and more likely that a fictional story will come out of it. – Le Tigre
Group 4-Period 2 Writing a nonfiction biography is very possible. Nonfiction is simply an account or representation of a subject or matter which is presented as fact. A biography is the make up of an individual's experience or life. Each fact that the author writes about has the ability to be fact or fiction but only the author would know the comparison. Except, a story can be exaggerated and contain very imaginative facts and descriptions, but the premise of the book or story is still based on actual events. Just because that person did not experience what the "character" did, does not give the reader the right to judge what is fact and fiction without living the "character's" life. One can only assume with such a situation, like Life of Pi, to judge and suspect the book is fiction. While others try to find faith in such a powerful, fantastic, intriguing and entertaining story. If one has faith in what he/she reads then a nonfiction biography is very possible.
Group 2 Period 2 (Sam, Justin, Carl) Yes, it is possible to write a non-fiction biography but that is not always what comes out. A biography is someone else writing about someone else’s life and right there tells you that it might not all be true. It can only be totally true if the person that experienced it is writing about it because only the person that went through something will know how it actually felt. The writer may also try to spice up the person’s life if it is a boring story and soon something that was suppose to help the story will make it totally false. It could also be difficult if the person you are writing about gives you false information, which could make your story fiction like in the “Life of Pi”. For example, Pi says “You can’t prove which story is true and which is not. You must take my word for it.”(Martel 317) So really you can write a non-fiction biography but it may be easier that a fiction one will turn out.
We do not believe it is possible to write a nonfiction biography. A biography is a person's life story written by another person. The author and the readers may not know how much truth is actually behind the story. When it is being written, there may be parts of the story that have to be filled in, or parts that need to be embellished to make it a better story. Additionally, no one truly knows if the story is actually nonfiction or not, besides the person that the story is about. For example, Pi agrees with this point by stating, "'You can't prove which story is true and which is not. You must take my word for it," (Martel 317). Pi supports the idea that only he knows which story is true, and that there is no way of knowing the truth unless one has experienced the events. Any biography may be nonfiction, but there is no way to know whether the story told is true or false.
It is nearly impossible to write a nonfiction biography. Even if the spine of the book accounts to be nonfiction, this small word does not mean that true facts and statements are being made throughout its text. Any event can be viewed with multiple perspectives, creating a blurred line between reality and fiction. When an author is writing a biography, they are writing their story under their opinion, stripping it of its truth at times. In some cases, authors exaggerate their story so greatly that it can not even be considered a nonfiction piece of literature. The nonfiction memoir A Million Little Lies by James Frey is a famous example of stretching the truth too far. His false story of drug addiction not only angered Oprah but the nation. Exaggerated opinions and perspectives of life events make it impossible to write a nonfiction biography.
DA RAP GAME Although a biography in essence is nonfiction, it is truly impossible to truly write a nonfiction biography. A nonfiction biography is supposed to be objective and tell factual information about a person. The only problem is that there is always a writer to these biography. The author, although trying to depict the truth, is for all intesnive purposes telling a story. Every person has an opinion. No one can truly be subjective to their emotions, opinions, and thoughts; including authors. An author may claim their story is nonfiction, but who is to say that their natural human instincts, their emotions, opinions and thoughts, haven't altered the truth. As Pi says, "You can't prove which story is true and which is not. You must take my word for it." (Martel 317)Since the truth relies on the author's word, it's almost impossible to truly create a nonfiction biography. This same interference of human emotion can be found in the courtroom everyday. Both the defendant and accuser will tell the story according to what they believe. The problem lies in that both the defendant and accuser will believe their story is the true story. Because human emotions will always diminish any objectivity, it's impossible to truly right a nonfication biography.
It is possible to write a nonfiction biography. "Isn't telling about something- using words, English or Japanese- already something of an invention? (Martel 302)." When yout tell a story, the words bring it together to make it believeable or not. Biographies are stories told about a person's life. It could be completely based on facts, could be somewhat factual, not factual at all. The reader can't really know except to trust what the author says it is. Authors may embellish on facts to make the story more interesting, but that doesn't exactly make it fiction, just an extension on the truth. Nonfiction biographies are possible but might be harder to write unless you had something crazy amazing happen in your life, because to be able to sell that book it has to be interesting to the public and the public likes to read about out of the ordinary things.
It is indeed possible to write a non-fiction biography. A biography is nothing more than an account of someone's life. The character of the biography doesn't necessarily need to be real. The difference between a non-fiction biography and i biography is that one can be embellished. In Life of Pi, Pi is based off of a man named Steven Callahan who is real, Pi is not. This is probably why Pi's life is a lot more embellished that Steven's.
It is possible to write a nonfiction biography. Someone could easily make up things that happened in their life and put it in their biography. People could also add things to their biography to make it more interesting. Someone who is writing a biography about themselves could change it around a little to make it more exciting. Group 5 -PB
This comment is in response to Iceberg's comment. Because She used the defenitions of biography, and fiction and explained them well i think that her point comes across clear and deliberate. She perfectly explains my personal opinion on the matter of a fiction/nonfiction biography is based solely on personal thought. The author is the only person that knows the truths and the lies within the text, and no matter what is said or recorded, it is completely up to the author. Figurative language and descriptive words can embellish or down-play any story, making the biographys truth a personal matter.
